Led by JKPCC President G A Mir alongwith Raman Bhalla, Mula Ram, Ravinder Sharma, Yogesh Sawhney, Balwan Singh, Th Balbir Singh, G L Chalotra, Indu Pawar, K C Bhagat, Ashok Dogra, Ved Mahajan , all former legislators besides senior functionaries of PCC, district presidents and frontal wings heads including Kanta Bhan, Manmohan Singh, Shah Nawaz Chaudhary, District Presidents Hari Singh Chib, Pankaj Dogra, Sanjeev Sharma, Rajesh Sadhotra, Shiv kumar Sharma, Udey Chib, Sunny Parihar and others were taken into custody by the police today while protesting against price hike on Tawi bridge Jammu Today. As part of Nationwide protest, a large number of Congress workers led by senior leaders assembled at Tawi bridge area to protest against unprecedented price hike of petrol, diesel, gas and all essential commodities. Carrying play cards and banners and raising slogans, the Congress workers led by G A Mir and other senior leaders held a strong protest near Maharaja Hari Singh statue at Tawi bridge Jammu today and raised slogans “ Narinder Modi Gareeb Virodhi” “ Mahanghai Control Karo”.
The senior leaders, party workers were taken into preventative custody as their number swelled towards Tawi bridge disrupting the traffic on highway for some time, the police had a tough time to control the mob who were protesting against unreasonable price hike by Modi Govt. However the PCC Chief and other senior leaders intervened to pacify the workers to restore the smooth traffic after some time and they were taken into custody by the police and taken to District Police lines Gandhi Nagar, Jammu. Later they were released by the police.
Earlier addressing the gathering Shri Mir lashed out at the Modi Govt. and BJP for fleecing the poor people by unreasonable taxes and blamed Modi Govt. of indulging in tax terrorism to give undue benefit to big capitalist at the cost of poor people.
He said that all essential commodities, eatables, medicines etc. are touching the sky high and the commonman and poor people are unable bear the burden. He said that the BJP is totally insensitive to the hardships of poor people and filling the coffers of the Govt. by heavy taxes on all items and other essential services.
Modi Govt. is anti poor and anti common man and diverts the attention of the people at the time of elections and makes false promises to win elections but today unemployed youth, daily wagers, need based, daily bread earners and middle class people are all fed up and want a change the system and present dispensation.
He said that the congress under the leadership of Smt. Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi shall continue to fight the anti people actions and policies of the BJP Govt.
Prominent others who were arrested include Ashok Dogra (Ex-LA), Kushal Bali, Shashi Sharma, Pawan Raina, Suresh Dogra, Karan Bhagat, Gajan Singh, Kapil Singh, Pranav Shagotra, Rajiv Saraf, Pawan Dev Singh, Amrit Bali, Sonu Dogra, Vandana Sharma, Ricky Dalotra, Hoshiar Singh, Varinder ManhasSuman Choudhary, Sushma Choudhary, Babal Gupta, Ajaib Moton, Sham Mehra, Narinder Gupta, Arti Gupta, Atul Sharma, Reena Mangotra, Vijay Shastri, Chander Sheikhar, Gurmeet Singh, Romesh Verma, B.S. Wazir, Rajinder Singh Nathu, Ashok Gupta, Pawan Bhagat, Tirth Bhagat and others.
